Executive Management Team

John Gallivan, President and Director

Mr Gallivan serves as a Director and as President of the Corporation. Prior to serving as President, Mr. Gallivan served as President of Gallivan & Associates, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Groupworks Financial Corp. During his 25 years in the industry he has practiced in both the estate planning and employee benefit areas and is a Life member of Million Dollar Roundtable. For the past 11 years he has developed a number of buying group strategies to provide health and dental benefits for post-secondary students at 27 universities, colleges and technical institutes across Canada.

Rocco Liscio, CA, CFO

Mr. Liscio serves as Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation. Prior to joining Groupworks, he held a variety of senior executive positions including Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Richards Packaging Income Fund, Chief Financial Officer of Royal Lepage Inc., and Chief Operating Officer of Dexior Financial (Ontario) Inc. Mr. Liscio holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Accountant.

Sean Cleary, Chairman

Mr. Cleary serves as Chairman of the Board and assists the company with many of its acquisition and capital markets requirements. He is the former Senior Vice President of Quest Securities Corporation (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quest Capital Corp (TSX-QC)) and has over 15 years of investment banking and corporate development experience with investment banking firms and public companies. Prior joining Quest, he founded Rathlin Capital International Inc., an independent investment-banking firm offering M&A, corporate finance and international private capital services. His experience includes ten years as CFO of a public investment fund company and three years as President of a TSX listed company.  Mr. Cleary holds a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Gery Barry, Director

Gery Barry serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, which manages the health and medical benefits for over 1.1 million individuals. Blue Cross is the largest insurer in the State of Louisiana with 1,600 employees, $3.5 billion of annual healthcare expenditures under administration. Prior to joining Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Mr. Barry was President and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Health (formerly Ontario Blue Cross). Through his leadership the company became one of Canada’s leading health and disability insurance companies. He simultaneously served as Liberty Mutual’s Chief Agent in Canada, with governance responsibilities for all of Liberty’s property/casualty branch operations in Canada. 

Jeffrey Case, Director and President of The Investment Guild

Mr. Case has served as President of The Investment Guild, a wholly owned subsidiary of Groupworks from 1981 to present.  Mr. Case has over 25 years of experience consulting with corporations on employee benefit plans and flexible benefit plans. Mr. Case holds Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (CH.F.C.) designations.

Mark Monaghan, Director

Mr. Monaghan is an independent board member and business consultant with significant capital markets and business development experience in Canada and internationally. He is the former President of Quest Securities Corporation., a wholly owned subsidiary of Quest Capital Corp., merchant banking firm, where his primary responsibilities concern equity transaction origination and execution. Mr. Monaghan has over 14 years of investment banking and corporate development experience with Canadian investment banking firms and public companies. Mr. Monaghan holds a B.A. in economics from Queen's University and a B.Comm. from the University of Windsor.

Robert Sillcox, Director

Robert Sillcox is widely recognized as the former Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of OMERS, Mr. Sillcox has significant investment experience gained from both the buy/sell and management areas of the investment, banking, insurance and pension industries. Mr. Sillcox has also served as Chairman of both the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) and the Pension Investment Committee (Canada) of the Financial Executives International (FEI), as a member of the President’s Investment Advisory Committee of the University of Toronto, and as a member of the Advisory Committee of State Street Global Advisors Canada. He currently sits as an independent Board Member of Glenmount International and HelpCaster Technologies and is a Trustee of Ridley College (St. Catherines, ON).

Michael Thomas, Director and Partner at The Investment Guild

Mr. Thomas has served as Secretary-Treasurer and principal of The Investment Guild from 1981 to present. Mr. Thomas holds Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Registered Financial Planner (R.F.P.), Chartered Financial Consultant (CH.F.C.) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations.  He is a founding member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners. Mr. Thomas holds a B.A. (Hons.) from York University.
